DONOVAN'S CHINESE LADY

A pastoral chinoiserie scene of considerable charm, depicting groups of Chinese figures seated on scrolled benches beneath floral arbours, with musicians playing beside a wooded pool. An open, spacious design well suited to large pieces of furniture, Donovans Chinese Lady was used in the summer house at Anglesey Abbey, where its scale and serenity were shown to particular advantage.
