There is a particular pleasure in a room that opens onto the garden, where the boundary between inside and out dissolves and the decoration moves seamlessly from one to the other. It is a quality that the finest English houses have always understood, and one that Jean Monro has always been well placed to serve.

The introduction of indoor/outdoor fabrics to the Nicky Haslam collection marks a quiet but significant moment for the brand. For the first time, two of the most beloved designs from Nicky Haslam's celebrated Random Harvest collection, Balcony Stripe and Seafern, are available in a cloth that performs as well as it looks. Crib 5 rated, stain repellent and built to withstand the demands of high sunlight areas, these are fabrics that ask nothing of the decorator except the same care in placement that every Jean Monro fabric deserves.

The Balcony Stripe, inspired by the shadow of a New Orleans balustrade and famously featured on the roof of The Ned in London, brings a considered architectural quality to any scheme. Seafern, with its sinuous trails of feathery fronds rendered with great botanical delicacy, offers something altogether more naturalistic. Together they provide a range of choice that suits rooms at every point on the spectrum from formal to relaxed.

Both designs are available in five colourways, from the freshness of New Mown Green to the warmth of Haystack Yellow and the quiet authority of Moonlight Beige, ensuring that whatever the setting, the fabric sits with the same ease and intelligence as any other design in the Jean Monro collection.

Because a loggia, a garden room, or a covered terrace deserves exactly the same consideration as a drawing room. The only difference is the cloth.
